Straw Phonation With A Cup For Vocal Relief

A vox question I’m asked nearly everyday:

What’s the fastest way to rebalance my voice when I’m tired and I need to sing with power through my vocal bridge?

This also applies to speaking at a projected volume.

My Answer:
Straw phonation with a cup!️️️

Straw phonation produces back pressure on your vocal cords which help them vibrate evenly, lowers your larynx, releases extrinsic muscle tension, and creates more space in your vocal tract.️

When you add the cup, you can articulate your vowels and consonants in lyrics and words while still benefiting from the balance of aerodynamic pressure and acoustic energy on your vocal cords and in your vocal tract.️

Physically, you’ll experience a smoother, more flexible feeling when you sing or speak.

I created a quick IG tutorial using my favorite straw phonation/cup product, The Voice Straw + Cup Combo Kit. It took me less than two minutes to even out my voice after a long stretch of singing and speaking!

VOX WITCH TIP:

To try this DIY, you can use a paper cup (poke a hole in the end of the cup with a pencil or pen tip) and add a soda or cocktail-size straw to start, then remove it.

Make sure you seal the cup securely over your mouth and under your chin to feel maximum back pressure!️️️
